Understanding Non-Small Cell Lung Cancer (NSCLC)
Non-small cell lung cancer (NSCLC) is the most common type of lung cancer, accounting for approximately 85% of all cases. It includes several subtypes, such as adenocarcinoma, squamous cell carcinoma, and large cell carcinoma. Typically developing in the lining of the lungs, NSCLC can spread to nearby tissues or distant organs as the disease progresses.
Common Signs and Symptoms of NSCLC:
- Persistent Cough: A long-lasting cough that may sometimes produce blood.
- Chest Pain: Discomfort or pain in the chest area, which might worsen with breathing or coughing.
- Shortness of Breath: Difficulty breathing, especially during activities or when lying down.
- Fatigue: A persistent feeling of tiredness that can interfere with daily activities.
- Unintended Weight Loss: Noticeable weight loss without a change in diet or exercise routine.
- Loss of Appetite: A decreased desire to eat, leading to possible nutritional concerns.
- Hoarseness: Changes in voice quality, such as a hoarse or raspy tone.
- Recurrent Respiratory Infections: Frequent episodes of bronchitis or pneumonia.
